
Art of Movement’s “theACADEMY” is our preprofessional assistant program designed to create a true understanding of what assisting is at national conventions and competitions. Not only will it prepare them for the dance world after high school, whether its studio, company or the professional industry, it will mold them to become the next generation of working dancers, educators, choreographers and directors. “theACADEMY” is an exclusive program for only selected students to travel and train on tour. Those selected to be Academy members are joining a network of elite dancers, world-renowned choreographers, executive directors, and industry agents. The connections they make during this experience will immensely benefit their dance career throughout its entirety. As a “GENERATION VI” member they will work closely with the Art of Movement faculty giving them a definite advantage in the world of dance. They will encompass what it all takes behind the scenes. As ambassadors of Art of Movement Dance Convention, Academy members will be required to passionately accept our organizational values. They will learn proper social media behavior, etiquette, and professional self-promoting. They will attend Academy Exclusive classes as well as perform at Art of Movement events. Academy members will also receive prestigious team clothing they can proudly wear on tour. The benefits of this program are undeniable, and we will enthusiastically focus on long-term success.

GENERATION VI AUDITION 1 Solo Submission + 2 Improvisations FEATURED ASSISTANT BID 1 Solo Submission + 3 Improvisations + Essay AUDITION PROCESS Submit one solo + 2 improvisations of two different styles using the music selected for you below! You may only use a genre one time. No Repetitions. I.e. If your solo is Jazz, you may not use Jazz as one of your selected genres for your improv. Improvisations must stay within style of genres chosen. Try not to blend. Be sure to show your range. Technique, Rhythm and Performance are key components that we are looking for.

Use your editing skills to combine a short introduction, your solo, and 2 improvisations (3 for Featured Assistant bids). Upload your video to YouTube with the label - (Full Name) - GEN VI Audition. Be sure the video is set to public or unlisted before you paste onto your audition submission form.

ACADEMY FEE $450 DUE AUGUST 15, 2022 Fee Covers: Admission to all 7 Art of Movement Events (not mandatory to attend all 7), however food & traveling expenses are NOT included, Team Swag (gear), Special theACADEMY Exclusive classes, & Two Exhibition Acts choreographed by the AOM Faculty. Academy Members are required to attend AT LEAST THREE (3) Tour Cities. Art of Movement sees the importance of training at a home studio and is not a replacement for said training, but to further your education of being an assistant. Your commitment to your home studio must be priority! We will consult with your Studio Director if commitment to home studio is compromised, which may result in termination from theACADEMY.
